FAQ

About Mechanical Watches:

Q: What is an automatic mechanical movement?

A: A mechanical watch is powered by winding, and an automatic mechanical movement has an automatic winding rotor on the back. It rotates with the movement of your wrist, thus winding the mechanical watch. If worn for 8 hours or more a day, the mechanical watch can keep running for one day. If not worn for two days, it needs to be wound and reset to the correct time.

Q: What is a tourbillon?

A: In the 18th century, people used pocket watches to tell time. The balance wheel was affected by gravity, causing time errors. So, the famous watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet invented an escapement structure (including the balance and hairspring, lever and escapement wheel, and other components most susceptible to gravity) mounted on a rotating cage that completes one rotation per minute. Therefore, when all errors are repeated regularly, they cancel each other out.

Q: What is the difference between a Watchmake Factory tourbillon watch and a mechanical watch?

A: A tourbillon watch is a type of mechanical watch. The difference is that the tourbillon watch's escapement structure rotates 360 degrees and also features GMT and moon phase complications.

Q: Are mechanical watches easily scratched?

A: Our watch cases are made of 316L medical-grade stainless steel, and the watch glass is made of sapphire crystal, which is second only to diamonds in hardness, so it is relatively scratch-resistant.

Q: I just bought a mechanical watch, but it stopped/slowed down shortly after wearing it. What should I do?

A: Mechanical watches are powered by winding; insufficient winding will cause them to stop/slow down. Please turn the crown clockwise 30 times to wind it.

Q: How many turns does a hand-wound tourbillon mechanical watch need to be fully wound?

A: When the watch is static, gently shake it until the balance wheel starts to rotate, then wind it. One turn of the crown is considered one winding. It can be wound 35-40 times, but to properly maintain the watch, it's best to wind it only 70% of the way. Note that for manual winding, you should never wind it 100%, always leave a little room. Generally, as the crown approaches the maximum number of turns, you will feel the mainspring gradually tighten. When the resistance increases, you should stop winding to avoid over-winding, which can damage internal components.

Q: How should I maintain a mechanical watch?

A: If you don't wear your watch for a long time, please wind it every few days, as the lubricating oil in the watch can settle if left static for too long, leading to inaccurate timekeeping. For better maintenance, you can use a 24-hour automatic watch winder.

A: The workshop price includes one mechanical watch, one high-quality leather strap, and one black watch box. An additional $500 will be charged for a steel strap upgrade.

Q: Why use an automatic watch winder for mechanical watches?

A: Because if a mechanical watch is not wound and stops running, the watch oil can settle, leading to a deterioration in the watch's function. An automatic watch winder can prevent the watch from stopping due to prolonged inactivity, ensuring that the movement does not degrade due to a lack of operation. At the same time, an automatic watch winder can protect against dust and prevent the watch from deteriorating in humid environments.

Q: How do I power an automatic watch winder for mechanical watches?

A: When you purchase an automatic watch winder for mechanical watches, we will provide a three-pin plug or a USB charging cable. After connecting to power, it can wind your mechanical watch 24 hours a day.
